LinkAider report samples

Monday, December 7th, 2009

It is said that one picture is worth more than a thousand words (and 1001 words are worth more than one picture) so we decided to share some LinkAider report samples to see how much one product demo is worth. :)

We have received a bunch of great testimonials already and LinkAider is free to try, but let’s take a peek what LinkAider is capable of and how it can help you do your work (you can check all the shared reports for free, no signup required).

Our blog readers can see one theme come up on our blog from time to time: it’s broken link check. Despite the fact that LinkAider started as a broken link check tool its functionality is not limited to that. Let’s take a look:

Broken link report for code.msdn.microsoft.com

Msdn is a great resource for the developers. There you can find the latest (and the oldest, too) Microsft’s API documentations, code samples and tutorials. Being the one most trusted/official Microsoft documentation site it has only 376 broken links. 376 is really a small number and we should admit that Microsoft does a pretty good job keeping its site up to date.

Crawl report for 37signals

37signals blog

37signals is a famous web software company. The company is run by the web2.0 celebrities Jason Fred and David Heinemeier Hansson (the original developer of Ruby on Rails). You can find their blog at http://37signals.com/svn which is fun and inspiring to read. Since they are blogging for such a long time, no wonder they have many broken links (it is hard to keep up with many changes on the internet and it is not their primary business goal to keep their blog very clean).

Saint Jason Fried

Wonder what are the top things running through Jason’s head (we couldn’t keep ourselves from posting st. Jason’s picture here:) )? Perhaps the most linked hosts report may give you a clue:

And you can check the whole report here.

Smashingmagazine broken link report

Smashingmagazine is one of the greatest internet design/development sources. They write great tutorials themselves as well as post many links to great internet resources. You can see that they have more than 370 thousand links on their site at the moment. Writing lengthy tutorials and receiving a lot of feedback often produces big pages, however it is often worth to wait for a couple of seconds for their new great article to load.

Problogger link report

problogger 404

Problogger.net is one more internet celebrity we are huge fans of. Problogger.net is written by Darren Rowse with the main goal to educate other bloggers in how to blog and earn from what they are doing. This site has more than 6 million links at the moment. Let us spell that one more time: it has more than six million links with an average of 162 links per page. You should see this yourselves (check how fast LinkAider is organizing large amounts of data!).

Introducing smart reporting module

Friday, September 25th, 2009

We’d like to introduce you our smart advisory module that we implemented recently. Some of you may have already seen that, but we think that it’s worth a separate post.

Due our ongoing process of improving LinkAider in order to make it the best Swiss knife for webmasters we focus on providing the most convenient access to our reports. Some users are already happy using our smart filters to navigate through report data. However it is very easy to miss some crucial points to an unprofessional eye.

LinkAider’s advisory module tries to detect and report some critical issues on your site:

  • Huge amount of broken links.
Having a couple of broken links is OK, so we tend to ignore that. Moreover, we don’t like to bug you every time we find a broken link. Plus you can access that report via web interface. However, having huge amount of broken links may seriously harm your site’s reputation. If you got that message from us – that means that things are really bad. Go and fix your site immediately.
  • Possible spam
If you have a page with too many links to some particular host (more than your site’s average) we’d suggest you to check if someone hasn’t spammed your site (is there a lot of spam in comments or worse, if you have your site hacked).
  • Server errors/hosting problems
These are serious problems. That means that your server is miss-configured and you may loose your visitors/customers. Moreover, if we find such errors in the front end (usually people don’t give LinkAider tasks to crawl their backends) – you should check if everything is working on the back side.
  • Huge pages
You know how annoying it feels to wait while a page loads? Keep in mind that some of your site’s users are overseas and are using cheap and slow internet connection. This alert is more of advisory type, so if you have a really huge page and you believe that your users are patient and dedicated ignore it.

And here is a screenshot of sample report that you may see online

Moreover, these reports are sent to you via email when crawling task is finished. Hope you’ll enjoy this feature. And if you are not a user yet, subscribe now! It’s free! :)

Improved look. New features. Registration is open!

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Howdy!
We are excited to announce that after more than a month of hard work we’ve added a bunch of new features. The following improvements are available to all LinkAider subscribers (if you are not one – signup now for free):

Improved look & feel. Now LinkAider is more handy to use for your daily tasks:

  • It is much easier to create a task; “quick add”" form is available straight from app’s homepage
  • All tasks are in one list on the app’s dashboard
  • Improved summary report: we display more aggregated info and lots of numbers are ‘clickable’
  • Smarter and richer data filters in “links” and “pages” reports
  • Added column sorting
  • Export to CSV
  • You can save data filters for reports and use these filters for your other sites/tasks;
  • LinkAider now shows redirect info for redirected links

And there is more:

Besides the new features in report data filters and Summary report, LinkAider is showing you ETA of your running tasks and you can see live how many pages/links LinkAider found for running tasks at any moment.

New crawler features:

  • You can provide custom robots.txt for your website so LinkAider will go only where you want it to go on your website;
  • You can skip link checking if you want a task to finish faster or you can check only internal links of the website.

Thanks to all of you for your feedback. We listen to you and work hard to be more usable every day.

We’ve also significantly improved our crawlers’ performance and now we are happy to open registration for all! So go on and sign up, and invite your friends and colleagues!

Furthermore, you can follow us on Twitter to get more real time updates and see what we are into.
